Mascherano Picks Messi Over Ronaldo as the Greatest Footballer in History

Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano has firmly backed Lionel Messi as the greatest footballer of all time, placing him ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in the long-standing GOAT debate.
Messi and Ronaldo have dominated football for nearly two decades, setting records and pushing each other to new heights. While Messi now plays in the MLS with Inter Miami, Ronaldo continues his career in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr.
Despite both players nearing the end of their careers, their rivalry remains as intense as ever. When asked to choose between the two during a press conference, Mascherano didn’t hesitate.
“You don’t even need to ask,” he said. “Messi is the greatest player in history. There will never be another like him—it’s impossible. He has spent 20 years at the top, scoring and performing. Even if you put him in defence, he’d be the best defender. I’ve seen it myself.”
Mascherano, who played alongside Messi for years, made it clear that in his eyes, there’s no debate.
