Cardi B Speaks Out on Dozing Off in Court and Viral Memes
Cardi B has finally spoken about the viral moment from her recent civil trial where cameras caught her nodding off during the closing arguments. The rapper, never one to dodge attention, admitted with a laugh that yes she did fall asleep.
In a chat on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Cardi explained that exhaustion got the better of her. Between preparing for her upcoming album and handling the stress of court, she was stretched thin. “I tried to stay up, I really did,” she said, but eventually the long nights and early mornings won.
The trial was a 2018 incident involving a former security guard who accused Cardi of assaulting her while she was pregnant. Cardi denied the claims, and earlier this month, a jury cleared her of any wrongdoing. Despite the seriousness of the case, it was her sleepy courtroom moment that became the internet’s focus.
Social media was filled up with memes and jokes about her switching wigs, then to clips of her throwing a pen at a reporter. Instead of being upset, Cardi leaned into the humor. “At least it’s positive press,” she joked. She added that she’s usually dealing with harsh criticism, so this felt lighter.
Still, she admitted the timing was tough. The trial made her miss her children’s first day of school, and she’s been carrying the pressure of balancing her family, her career, and her new album, “Am I the Drama?”, which drops on September 19.
