Chidimma Adetshina, the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, recently opened up about her decision to deactivate her X (formerly Twitter) account, citing concerns for her mental well-being.

The beauty queen shared that constant criticism and negativity had taken a toll on her emotional health, leading her to step away from the platform.

Adetshina, 23, faced harsh backlash during her time in South Africa, particularly when she competed for the Miss South Africa title.

This criticism was further intensified when the South African Department of Home Affairs (DHA) made claims suggesting that her mother had been involved in fraud and identity theft.

While these allegations added pressure, it was the relentless online comments that pushed her to make a change.

Speaking candidly in an interview with Arise 360, Chidimma explained how deeply the negative feedback affected her.

“I had to delete it because I felt like it was too much for me. I’m a comment reader, so I would go through every comment, and that’s where the problem started,” she revealed.

She admitted that spending a significant portion of her day reading both positive and negative comments became overwhelming.

“I could spend 80% of my day reading comments, and at some point, it became toxic for me.”

Although she no longer uses X, Adetshina continues to engage with her supporters on other social media platforms like Instagram, where she took further steps to protect her mental space by limiting comments.

Despite the challenges, Chidimma remains grateful for the outpouring of support from her fans.

She expressed her heartfelt thanks to those who have stood by her through the ups and downs, and emphasized the importance of protecting her peace of mind in the face of criticism.
