Christina Aguilera recently reflected on the challenges she faced during the era of her self-titled debut album, which just marked its 25th anniversary.
In an interview with *Paper* magazine, Aguilera, now 43, discussed feeling uncomfortable with the pressure to portray a hypersexualized, innocent image that didn’t align with her true self. She expressed her frustration with the industry’s expectations and how it influenced her decision to shift her image dramatically with the release of her 2002 hit single “Dirrty.”
Aguilera revealed that her early success came with significant downsides, including the pressure from male figures in the industry who tried to shape her image. This experience led her to create empowering songs like “Fighter,” where she pushed back against the conflicting expectations of being both sexy and sweet.
