Couples to Reflect on Their Wedding Day Rather Than Just Celebrate says Actor Akah Nnani
The Nigerian actor shared his thoughts as a guest in an interview called Toke Moments podcast, advising that couples should approach their wedding day with deep reflection.
He explained, “One day, when I was talking to my wife it clocked that all the people who are doing ‘God when’ throw the biggest parties on their wedding day and dance. But actually, a wedding day is supposed to be a somber day, If we know what we’re doing and what we’re getting into it’s meant to be a day of somberness.” Nnani urged for couples to re-assess their expectations and beliefs of marriage as it is deeper than the surface. He explained that the families concerned can celebrate but couples ought to reflect on the day.
“The families can rejoice because the family is gaining a daughter and the other family is gaining a son. They can rejoice but you see the people entering it are supposed to be somber because you are saying, ‘I am giving my independence away to live my life the way I want to.’ I am walking into a lifetime of service and love to this person,” he said.
Nnani added, “It’s a somber day of reflection like ‘Wow I’m giving away my independence.’ If you know what you’re doing, you’re not actually meant to be gyrating on your wedding day. People are entering with the wrong expectations and belief systems.”

Rema and Asake Feature in Barack Obama’s Favorite Songs of 2024
Two Nigerian music stars, Rema and Asake, have earned a place in former U.S. President Barack Obama’s annual list of favorite songs for 2024.
On Saturday, Obama shared his handpicked selection of tracks from the year, and both artists’ songs were included.
Rema’s hit single Yayo and Asake’s collaboration with Travis Scott on Active made the prestigious list..
The list also saw the inclusion of another African artist, South Africa’s Tyla, who was featured for her song Jump, a track featuring Gunna and Skillibeng.
In addition to the African stars, Nigerian-American singers Shaboozey and Jordan Adetunji also appeared on Obama’s playlist.
Shaboozey’s A Bar Song and Adetunji’s Kehlani were celebrated for their unique sound, adding diversity to the mix.
As expected, the list also featured big names from the global music scene, with legendary artists like Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, and Karol G all making an appearance.
These mainstream stars continue to dominate the music industry, but Obama’s inclusion of emerging artists such as Rema and Asake shows his appreciation for a variety of musical genres.
On sharing his list with his followers via X (formerly Twitter), Obama encouraged fans to explore the tracks, saying, “Here are my favorite songs from this year!
Check them out if you’re looking to shake up your playlist, and let me know if there’s a song or artist I should make sure to listen to.”
