Former Atalanta striker German Denis believes Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is the most deserving player for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. Martinez will contend for the prestigious award alongside players like Vinicius Junior, Rodri, Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal, and Kylian Mbappe.

The Argentina international earned a spot on the 30-man shortlist after a remarkable 2023-24 season at both the club and national levels. In a recent interview with TMW, Denis praised Martinez, stating, “This season, Lautaro deserves the Ballon d’Or more than anyone because he scored frequently and achieved all his objectives.” Martinez played a key role in Inter Milan’s Scudetto victory last season, scoring 24 goals and providing six assists in 33 matches.

“I remember being 15 and going into my final year, and I told myself that if I didn’t get into a professional club, I would quit football. It was that simple,” he said.

“I would just stop pursuing it seriously and only play for fun. Thank God I eventually got a club, because I honestly don’t know where I would be otherwise.”
