Fubara Visits Wike to Beg for Peace after Tinubu Steps In to Stop Crisis in Rivers
In a fresh move toward reconciliation, Rivers State’s suspended Governor, Sim Fubara, recently visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at his home in Abuja.
Fubara didn’t go alone. He was accompanied by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba. Upon arriving, Fubara reportedly went straight into Wike’s living room—an environment he’s quite familiar with—and pleaded with him.
A source close to the situation, who preferred not to be named, confirmed that the meeting did happen. However, when asked if it brought an end to the state of emergency declared in the state, the source said they couldn’t confirm that part.
This development follows Fubara’s recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu in London. Fubara and Wike had been at loggerheads since Fubara assumed office in 2023, and things took a more dangerous turn when threats from Niger Delta militants prompted Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State.
In response to the growing tension, the president suspended Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state assembly for six months, installing a Sole Administrator to take charge. Wike, while commenting on the situation, revealed he had pushed for Fubara’s removal, but it was Tinubu’s intervention that stopped things from escalating further.

Pastor Tunde Bakare Speaks on Rising Kidnappings, Urges Government Action

The pastor urges the government on steps they can take to solve and help the people of the country. “The Nigerian government has a clear and urgent duty to protect these Middle Belt communities, who have carried the weight of violence for far too long.”
“Rather than play the ostrich and cover up clear terrorism as mere farmer-herder clashes, the Nigerian state has a responsibility to invade the camps of armed marauders who hide under the cloak of herdsmen of whatever ethnicity, and who invade defenceless communities and gleefully massacre unarmed men, women and children.”
