The Governor of Ogun State has extended his heartfelt condolences to the victims of the devastating tanker fire that occurred in Ibafo, leaving behind a trail of destruction and hardship.
The fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, engulfing the area in flames that consumed vehicles, buildings, and other properties.
The scale of the damage was immense, with properties worth millions of naira reduced to rubble.
Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as an unfortunate event that has caused significant distress to the affected residents and business owners.
In his message, he said, “My heart goes out to all those who have been impacted by this terrible inferno. We stand with you during this difficult time of loss and devastation.”
Although the fire wreaked havoc on numerous properties, the governor found solace in the fact that no lives were lost, stating, “It is indeed unfortunate that property worth millions has been destroyed, but we are grateful that there was no loss of life.”
He also stressed the importance of swift recovery efforts, assuring those affected that the state government would provide necessary support to help them rebuild their lives and businesses.
Governor Abiodun further emphasized the need for safety precautions when it comes to transporting and storing fuel. He urged tanker drivers and operators to strictly adhere to safety protocols to avoid such catastrophic events in the future.

The governor’s visit to the affected area and his words of encouragement have brought some comfort to the victims, though the road to recovery will be long.
This incident serves as a painful reminder of the dangers that can arise from negligence and the importance of prioritizing safety to protect lives and properties in the future.

FG Extends NYSC Orientation Camp From 3 to 6 Weeks
The Federal Government has announced an extension of the NYSC programme. It can be noted that the NYSC camp orientation is usually for three weeks before the youths go out to gain experience, employment, and serve the country for one year.
However, the FG announced that the passing-out parade from camp will be cancelled, and corps members will now spend six weeks in camp instead of three weeks.
“The first two weeks speak to laying a foundation on civic responsibility. The next two weeks will look at career mapping, basic accounting literacy skills, business planning and access to finance. The final two weeks, we intend to have focused corps-stream-specific training aligned with the corps member’s designated stream based on his choice, academic background and skills profile.”

The FG released a statement to explain the process and stated that there is no intention to place taxes on telecom and petroleum products and services.
