West Ham manager Graham Potter has opened up about his time at Chelsea, admitting that getting sacked might have been a blessing in disguise.

Speaking ahead of West Ham’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Monday, Potter reflected on his brief and turbulent spell at Stamford Bridge.

Looking back, the 49-year-old sees it as a valuable learning experience rather than a setback.

“In football, there are always ups and downs,” Potter said. “I didn’t want to lose my job, but now, when I reflect on it, maybe it was the best thing that could have happened to me.

Maybe the next 10 to 20 years will be even better because of what I went through. I’ve learned a lot from that time.”

Despite the disappointment, Potter insists he holds no grudges against Chelsea and still maintains strong relationships with many people at the club.

In a heart-wrenching conclusion to their UEFA Champions League campaign, Liverpool were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in a penalty shootout at Anfield. The match ended 1-0 in favor of PSG, leveling the aggregate score at 1-1, but the French side advanced after a 4-1 victory in the shootout.

The decisive moment in regular time came when Ousmane Dembélé scored for PSG, nullifying Liverpool’s advantage from the first leg. Despite Liverpool’s efforts to regain control, they were unable to break through PSG’s defense.

In the penalty shootout, PSG’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was instrumental, saving attempts from Darwin Núñez and Curtis Jones. PSG converted all their penalties, with successful strikes from Vitinha, Gonçalo Ramos, Dembélé, and Désiré Doué.

The emotional toll was evident as Liverpool’s talisman, Mohamed Salah, was seen in tears following the defeat. This match could mark Salah’s final European appearance for Liverpool, as his contract is set to expire in the summer. Negotiations over a new deal have been ongoing, but no agreement has been reached, leading to uncertainty about his future at the club.

Adding to Liverpool’s woes, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered an injury during the match, raising concerns about his availability for upcoming fixtures. Fans fear this injury, coupled with his unresolved contract situation, might mean he has played his last game for the club.

In a gripping UEFA Champions League Round of 16 encounter, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) edged past Liverpool, securing their quarter-final spot after a tense penalty shootout at Anfield. The match concluded 1-0 in favor of PSG, leveling the aggregate score at 1-1, but the French side triumphed 4-1 in the ensuing penalties.

The decisive moment in regular time came early, as Ousmane Dembélé netted a goal for PSG, erasing Liverpool’s slender advantage from the first leg. Despite Liverpool’s dominance in the second half, including a disallowed goal and several thwarted attempts, they couldn’t find the back of the net.

PSG’s goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, delivered a standout performance, notably saving penalties from Darwin Núñez and Curtis Jones during the shootout.

Reflecting on the heart-wrenching exit, Liverpool’s captain, Virgil van Dijk, addressed his teammates, urging them to maintain their morale and swiftly redirect their focus to upcoming challenges. He emphasized the importance of resilience and preparation for their next fixture against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

“It was a very intense, great game of football,” Van Dijk remarked. “We had our chances, especially in the first half, but that’s football. I told the guys to keep their chins up. We need to regroup and get ready for the next challenge, a beautiful one on the weekend.”
