I affected my own career- Terry G
Nigerian singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, better known as Terry G, has disclosed that a physical altercation with a DJ several years ago had a significant impact on his career.
In 2016, Terry G made headlines when he slapped DJ Phreez, who was under the mentorship of DJ Jimmy Jatt, during an event in Lagos. This incident occurred after DJ Phreez played another artist’s song in an attempt to prompt Terry G to leave the stage.
As a result of his actions, the DJs Association of Nigeria (DJAN) decided to blacklist Terry G. Reflecting on this in the latest episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, the ‘Akpako Master’ acknowledged that the altercation hindered his artistic development. He further revealed that he subsequently apologized to DJ Phreez and DJ Jimmy Jatt for his behavior.
