“I Had the Intention of Returning to Barcelona but It Wasn’t Possible” – Messi
Lionel Messi has opened up about his desire to return to Barcelona but admitted that it never materialized.
After leading Argentina to victory in the 2022 World Cup, Messi was eager to make a comeback to the La Liga side. However, things didn’t fall into place, and he eventually made the move to Major League Soccer, signing with Inter Miami after leaving Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.
“I wanted to return to Barcelona and go back to the place I always loved, but it just wasn’t possible,” Messi shared in an interview with Simplemente Fútbol.
He explained that after that, his decision on where to play next became a family matter, with the World Cup win playing a significant role. “I knew I didn’t want to play for any other European team,” he said.
Messi spent 17 seasons at Barcelona, collecting 35 trophies, including 10 La Liga titles and 4 Champions League wins. At Inter Miami, he has already secured two titles: the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield.

“We Were Forced to Leave Immediately” — Iran Coach Speaks Out
The coach of Iran’s club described his team’s journey as the most oppressive in this World Cup. It can be noted that the country was announced to play against Los Angeles after their draw with New Zealand.
The coach shared that they had already planned to rest for a day for recovery before returning, but instead were told to leave immediately.
“After the game, they said to us, ‘You have to leave immediately. We’ve been asked to get on a plane and return to our camp in Tijuana, and we are really troubled by that.’
“They are forcing us to go back early. They are making the situation more and more difficult, more hurdles, but we’re not going to let that stop us from doing our best.”
