Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has spoken out about the backlash she faced for her role in seeking justice for the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The actress revealed that her activism attracted harsh criticisms and serious allegations, including claims that she was involved in Mohbad’s death.

During an interview on “Glass House” with comedian AY, Iyabo addressed these accusations, calling them baseless and hurtful.

She shared that some individuals had gone as far as accusing her of using Mohbad’s death to gain popularity and pursue personal interests, including claims of seeking a political appointment.

She dismissed these narratives, asserting that her intentions were purely driven by a desire to uncover the truth and ensure justice for the young artist.

Iyabo clarified her connection with Mohbad, stating that they only met briefly during the One Africa Music Fest.

“I didn’t know him that well. He was a quiet young man, focused on his music and dealing with his struggles.

I wasn’t around when he passed away, so how could I have been involved?” she asked.

She pointed out the contradiction in the allegations, questioning why she would advocate for an autopsy and thorough investigation if she had something to hide.

The actress also addressed claims that she was financially motivated in her advocacy.

“There was a time they said I was paid to do this, or that I wanted to use it for clout. People even speculated I was chasing a political position. It’s all ridiculous.

I wasn’t seeking anything for myself; I only wanted justice for a young man who deserved better,” she said.

Mohbad, a fast-rising singer formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records, tragically passed away at just 27.

“I am not doing this for praise or attention. Mohbad deserves justice, and I will continue to speak out until the truth is revealed,” she affirmed.
