The Adamawa/Taraba chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has vowed to persist with its strike despite petrol prices reaching ₦2,000 per litre.

The IPMAN Chairman, Alhaji Dahiru Buba, announced in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola that the strike by the Adamawa/Taraba chapter will persist due to continuous harassment and illegal tanker seizures by Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) officers. He criticized customs officers for abandoning their border duties to target legitimate businesses, causing financial losses, artificial scarcity, and price hikes. The strike will continue until these activities cease.

The strike has led to high petrol prices, reduced vehicular movement, and increased transport fares, with commuters paying ₦700 instead of ₦300. Many fuel stations in Yola are closed, forcing motorists to buy from black markets. On June 10, NCS Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi urged cooperation to combat petrol smuggling, calling it economic sabotage.

It has been shared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is calling on the federal government to suspend the tax law set to take effect on January 1, 2026.

This was revealed in a statement released by Ini Ememobong, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP. He stated that this new law shows how Nigerians and the masses will be affected, arguing that the government is prioritizing finance over security and other pressing matters.

“Rather than address these issues comprehensively, the Presidency has consciously minimized them and instead insisted that the commencement date must stand, despite the discrepancies,” the party said, adding that this “clearly shows where the priority of the government lies between Nigerians and money.”
