Jaywon Apologizes to Ayra Starr Over Grammy Snub Post, Calls Her Best in Africa
Nigerian singer Jaywon recently extended an apology to his fellow artist Ayra Starr after accusations surfaced that he mocked her for not securing a Grammy nomination.
The Grammy nominees for the 67th awards show were recently announced, and despite Ayra Starr’s success and popularity this year, her name was absent from the list, disappointing many fans and supporters who had hoped to see her recognized.
Shortly after the announcement, Jaywon posted a photo of himself holding two Grammy awards, which some interpreted as a subtle jab at Ayra Starr’s lack of a nomination.
This was particularly notable given the tension between the two artists, as they’ve been involved in an ongoing online disagreement.
The post quickly sparked backlash, with fans accusing Jaywon of being insensitive to Ayra Starr’s disappointment.
In response to the criticism, Jaywon issued a public apology, clarifying that his intentions had been misunderstood.
Expressing admiration for Ayra Starr, he described her as one of the best female vocalists in Africa and shared that he’s a genuine fan of her music.
He emphasized that he doesn’t believe in tearing others down but instead believes in uplifting and supporting fellow artists to create a lasting impact in the music industry.
In his apology, Jaywon said, If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has.
Adding to his supportive message, he continued, On this side, we don’t pull people down. We elevate, not just for today, but for the future. Ola Inu Kan.
