Amorim Says Man United’s Late FA Cup Win Wasn’t “Fergie Time”

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has downplayed suggestions that their dramatic FA Cup win over Leicester City was another case of “Fergie time.”

United struggled in the first half, failing to register a shot on target for the third time this season. Leicester took the lead before halftime when Bobby De Cordova-Reid scored on the rebound after Wilfred Ndidi’s shot was saved.

Joshua Zirkzee equalized in the second half, and just when extra time seemed inevitable, Harry Maguire headed in a 93rd-minute winner from Bruno Fernandes’ free kick.

Speaking to ITV after the match, Amorim admitted the team must improve but dismissed any comparisons to Sir Alex Ferguson’s era.

“We had to believe until the end, but this had nothing to do with Fergie time. Our performance needs to be much better, with and without the ball,” he said.

He also took responsibility for the team’s struggles, adding, “We lacked energy in the first half but played with more urgency after the break. It was a good result, but not a good performance.

When a team doesn’t perform or improve, the coach is responsible. Now, we focus on learning and getting better for the next game.”

Pepe has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo once offered him part of his salary in a bid to keep him at Real Madrid.

Pepe spent years as a key figure in Madrid’s defense alongside Sergio Ramos, earning a reported £110,000 per week. However, in 2017, he chose to leave as a free agent and signed with Besiktas, despite Ronaldo’s efforts to make him stay.

Ronaldo, who was on a £365,000 weekly wage at the time, even offered to give Pepe a portion of his earnings. But Pepe declined, explaining that money wasn’t the reason for his departure.

“I told him I couldn’t stay because of certain difficulties, and he said, ‘If it’s about money, mate, I’ll give you part of mine!’ But I told him no. It wasn’t about that. I just wanted to enjoy football again, so I chose to go to Turkey,” Pepe shared in an interview with Renascenca.
