Joao Pedro Says He Joined Chelsea to Support Cole Palmer Not Compete With Him
Joao Pedro has admitted he was nervous about how Cole Palmer would react to his arrival at Chelsea, fearing the club’s star man might see him as competition.
The Brazilian joined from Brighton earlier this summer and has quickly settled in, playing a big role in Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup triumph. But he revealed that on his first meeting with Palmer, he felt the need to clear the air.
“Cole is a superstar,” Pedro said. “When I first came, I was a little worried about how he’d take it, because I was the main guy at Brighton. Chelsea is different, so I went to him and said, ‘I’m here to help you.’ He knows I can help him, and I know he can help me.”
Pedro added that the pair have built a strong connection on the pitch, and he believes their partnership can deliver more trophies for the Blues. Chelsea have started the Premier League season strongly, with two wins and a draw putting them second in the table behind Liverpool.
