Kaduna Assembly Recommends Probe of Former Governor El-Rufai for Financial Misconduct

The Kaduna State House of Assembly recently conducted an investigation into the financial activities during the tenure of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The findings revealed several concerning issues:
Misuse of Loans: Many loans obtained during El-Rufai’s administration were not utilized for their intended purposes. Due process was also not followed in securing some of these loans.
Massive Debt: The El-Rufai government borrowed a total of N423 billion, leaving the state burdened with significant liabilities.
The committee recommended the following actions:
– Investigate and prosecute El-Rufai and other implicated cabinet members for abuse of office, contract irregularities, diversion of public funds, and money laundering.
– Suspend the Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance, Shizer Badda, who also served under El-Rufai’s administration.
– Conduct a comprehensive inquiry into key appointments made during the previous government.
This probe aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and responsible governance in Kaduna State.

PDP Governors Say They Won’t Bow to Pressure from Federal Government

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared that they won’t be shaken by any form of intimidation from the Federal Government. Speaking at the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, the governors accused the current administration of using pressure tactics and exclusion to weaken the party. But they made it clear—they’re not backing down.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors Forum, said the Tinubu-led government has created a political environment filled with provocations and hurdles. He admitted that the party has faced defections and ongoing talks about alliances, but insisted that PDP is still strong and united.
“No kind of pressure or manipulation has been left out,” he said. “But we’re still here, standing firm in our commitment to good governance.” He pointed out that unlike other parties that are battling internal divisions, the PDP has managed to stay united. “We are not like the others with constant in-fighting. We remain one family,” he said.
Governor Mohammed also highlighted how the party has been staying active by holding meetings across several states and releasing communiqués that tackle key national issues. He mentioned recent gatherings in Plateau, Taraba, Oyo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bauchi as proof that the party is not fading away. He praised party leaders for their resilience and described the NEC meeting as a clear victory for democracy and responsible leadership in the face of growing national challenges.

Peter Obi Says 2027 Might Be His Last Time Contesting for President Due to Age

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, has hinted that the 2027 general elections might be his last shot at running for the presidency. In a video that’s now making rounds on social media, Obi spoke about age and Nigeria’s political structure as reasons he may not stay in active politics beyond 2027. His media aide, Umar Ibrahim, confirmed the clip was recent.
Obi explained that there should be a retirement age in politics and noted that he’ll be 65 by the next election. He also pointed out that if power shifts to the North in 2031, it may not come back to the South until 2039, by which time he would be 77 — an age he believes is too late for another presidential run.
He said he wouldn’t want to contest at that point because it would go against everything he believes in. Still, he assured young Nigerians of his continued support. Obi said even if he’s not running, he’ll be fully behind any youth-led movement for real change and will offer any help he can.

Atiku Says Tinubu’s 2027 Endorsement Means Nothing Because Only Nigerians Can Decide

Former presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s second term bid by APC governors and leaders of the National Assembly, calling it a desperate move from a panicked administration. The endorsement came during the APC National Summit in Abuja, where Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared Tinubu the party’s and Nigeria’s sole candidate for the 2027 election.
Reacting through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku said the approval of Nigerians, not political endorsements, will decide the future of the country. He criticized the Tinubu-led administration for focusing on 2027 while the nation struggles with worsening insecurity and economic hardship.
“Our coalition is confident because we’ve prepared well,” Ibe told journalists in Abuja. “It’s the Nigerian people who will decide, not staged endorsements. The way this administration is behaving shows they are clearly worried.” He added that while families battle rising food prices, school fees, and lack of access to healthcare, the government seems more interested in political drama than solving real problems.
