The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has compared the looting and destruction during the ongoing hunger protests to granting licenses to armed robbers. Keyamo made this statement in response to the nationwide demonstrations, which have turned violent in several areas. In Kano, protesters looted a yet-to-be-commissioned Nigeria Communication Commission facility and later set it ablaze. According to Bosun Tijani, the protesters, including some teenagers, stole new furniture and desktops before torching the building.

In Kaduna, a police officer was killed during an attack on state government buildings by protesters. The violence also reached the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where protesters set the Nyanya Police Station on fire. Keyamo noted that some protesters were already inclined to commit crimes, using the protests as an opportunity to act. He emphasized that while peaceful protests are legitimate, it is crucial to avoid initiating protests without the ability to control their course.

Nigerian news analyst, Mahmud Jega, has shared his opinion on the recent airstrike carried out by the United States in Nigeria, stating that Nigerians should not blame President Bola Tinubu for the incident.

“No, I don’t think many people will blame the Tinubu administration for what is happening now because President Donald Trump, when he first made the threats, it was clearly not in coordination with the Tinubu administration or the government of Nigeria,” Jega said.
