King Sunny Ade to Perform ‘Waiting for Me’ Forever in Onwenu’s Honor
Legendary Juju musician King Sunny Ade has pledged to honor the memory of his late collaborator Onyeka Onwenu by performing their 1989 duet, “Waiting for Me,” for the rest of his life. Ade made this commitment during a visit to Onwenu’s family with the Musical Society of Nigeria (MCSN) management, where he praised Onwenu as an exceptional talent and mentor.
Ade fondly recalled their collaborations, noting Onwenu’s leadership and creative input, which greatly contributed to their successful music. He emphasized that he has performed the song in various countries, always giving credit to Onwenu. Ade also addressed rumors of a romantic relationship with Onwenu, dismissing them as mere publicity stunts intended to promote their duet. He clarified that while there was speculation about their relationship, it was purely a gimmick for their music career, and they never confirmed or denied the rumors.
