An incident involving legendary Fuji musician Kwam 1 (King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal) and ValueJet Airlines has grabbed the nation’s attention after a chaotic scene unfolded at the Abuja airport on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

Kwam 1 was set to board ValueJet’s VK 201 flight from Abuja to Lagos, but things took a different turn when airport officials questioned the content of a flask he carried with him. According to reports, crew members suspected the container had alcohol, which isn’t allowed on board. They asked him to hand it over, but he allegedly refused. He insisted it was either water or something for medical use. The refusal to surrender the flask caused a standoff between him and the airline staff.

Things got more intense when Kwam 1 reportedly stepped out onto the airport tarmac and stood close to the aircraft’s path, apparently trying to stop the flight from taking off. Videos taken at the scene show the aircraft taxiing with Kwam 1 still in front of it.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have both weighed in. Two ValueJet pilots have now been suspended for starting the aircraft’s taxiing without final clearance from the control tower, which goes against air safety regulations. In addition to this, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has ordered that Kwam 1 be placed on a no-fly list, warning that any airline that flies him could face penalties, including losing their license.

The airline is also said to be considering legal action against him, while reports suggest he may be blacklisted from flying within the country until the matter is resolved.

Kwam 1, however, has spoken out. He insists he did nothing wrong and that ValueJet has already apologized to him. He said the airline even offered to fly him privately to Lagos after the drama, which he turned down. According to him, the flask only contained water and not alcohol, and he believes the entire situation was blown out of proportion.

Meanwhile, actor and media personality Patrick Doyle has spoken in defense of Kwam 1. He shared that public figures often get targeted in situations like this and suggested that airline staff may have tried to provoke the musician. Doyle recalled similar treatment during his own travels, pointing out how these situations can quickly get out of hand.
