Lagos Council Chairmen Urge Assembly to Retain LCDAs Amid Proposed Restructuring

The chairmen of Lagos’ Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), under the banner of Conference 57, have called on the Lagos State House of Assembly to reconsider its proposal to replace the 37 LCDAs with Area Administrative Councils, as outlined in the new Local Government Administration Bill.

During a public hearing on October 17, the Assembly discussed the potential restructuring, prompting Mr. Rasaq Ajala, General-Secretary of Conference 57, to appeal for the preservation of the current system.

Ajala highlighted that the LCDAs have played a crucial role in grassroots development and urged the Assembly to work towards constitutional recognition of the LCDAs rather than their dissolution.

He emphasized the legal and constitutional backing of the 37 LCDAs, referencing the Supreme Court’s validation during President Bola Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos governor.

Conference 57 praised the Assembly for its efforts in fostering development but urged them to maintain the existing LCDAs structure for continued progress.
