Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O Kanayo has come out in support of Davido, following the hate over the singer’s recent comments about Nigeria’s struggling economy.

During an appearance on The Big Homies House podcast in the United States, Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, discussed Nigeria’s economic challenges, describing the situation as dire.

He advised African Americans against relocating to the country, stating, “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles.”

His remarks quickly went viral and sparked outrage among some Nigerians who accused the singer of tarnishing the nation’s image.

Others even demanded an apology, claiming his comments were unnecessary and damaging.

Kanayo, however, strongly defended Davido’s right to express his opinion, emphasizing that the singer was merely shedding light on the struggles many Nigerians face daily.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, the veteran actor urged critics to focus their energy on addressing the issues raised rather than attacking the messenger.

According to Kanayo, Davido’s wealth and privileged background do not invalidate his concerns about the country’s economic challenges.

He said, “Davido spoke his mind. Why should that be a problem? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and he expressed his in good faith.

The Adeleke family is wealthy enough to live comfortably for life, but it would be wrong for him to ignore the struggles of ordinary Nigerians just because he’s okay.

His comments represent the voices of many people who can’t speak up for themselves.”

Kanayo dismissed calls for Davido to apologize, arguing that criticism often comes from a place of love and a desire for improvement.

He added that the responsibility lies with those in power to address the issues highlighted by the singer rather than deflecting blame onto him.

“Why should he apologize? For telling the truth? Davido speaks for millions of Nigerians who are struggling to make ends meet.

If his comments upset anyone, they should take it as a challenge to do better and improve the state of the country,” Kanayo remarked.
