Maleek Berry Shares His Journey to Stardom
Nigerian singer and producer, Maleek Berry shares his encounter with Davido in the early days of their career. During an appearance on the ’90s Baby’ podcast, the ‘Kontrol’ artist recounted how Davido, despite his affluent background, pretended to be struggling while they were both working together in the studio.
Berry reminisced about a time when Davido had only accumulated four thousand views on YouTube. He recalled taking him to a studio in Bermondsey when Davido visited London. Their connection was facilitated by one of Davido’s cousins through social media, and at that point, neither of them had gained much recognition in the industry.
“He blended in with us like one of those kids without money,” Berry said. “But when I visited his father’s mansion, I was astonished. There’s a level of wealth that’s beyond imagination.” Berry expressed his surprise upon seeing the luxurious residence. “It was eye-opening,” he stated, explaining how Davido’s demeanor had misled him regarding his financial status. Additionally, Berry revealed that it was Davido who eventually introduced him to Wizkid years later.
