On Father’s Day, a 35-year-old man named Siyanda Magagu kidnapped his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son, Anganam Magxwalisa, and hung him from a tree in Xholora township, Stutterheim, in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Eastern Cape NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali reported that Magagu appeared at the Stutterheim Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, facing charges of kidnapping and murder. He has been remanded in custody.

The incident allegedly took place after Magagu argued with the child’s mother. He took the child from his 13-year-old cousin, claiming he was going to buy him sweets at a local spaza shop. According to family spokesperson Babalwa Goroleki, Magagu had been part of Anganam’s life since he was two months old.

“We are deeply shocked,” said Goroleki. “We never thought he would do something like this. He loved him like his own. We just don’t understand what could have possessed him to do something like this.”

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said the mother contacted the police to report Anganam missing.

Published

on

The Federal Government has announced an extension of the NYSC programme. It can be noted that the NYSC camp orientation is usually for three weeks before the youths go out to gain experience, employment, and serve the country for one year.

“The first two weeks speak to laying a foundation on civic responsibility. The next two weeks will look at career mapping, basic accounting literacy skills, business planning and access to finance. The final two weeks, we intend to have focused corps-stream-specific training aligned with the corps member’s designated stream based on his choice, academic background and skills profile.”

The federal government reacted to claims stating that the new tax rules will be imposed on telecommunications and petroleum products for Nigerians.

The FG released a statement to explain the process and stated that there is no intention to place taxes on telecom and petroleum products and services.

“Those recommendations do not amount to government policy and are not binding on Nigeria. Decisions on tax matters are taken through established constitutional and legislative processes and are guided by national priorities and prevailing economic realities.”
