Man United Decides to Keep Amorim as Manager Despite Carabao Cup Defeat
Manchester United have decided to stand by manager Ruben Amorim despite their shocking Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town earlier this week.
United were stunned on Wednesday night as the League Two side, who are in England’s fourth division, knocked them out of the competition. Grimsby went into half-time with a two-goal advantage, before late strikes from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire dragged the game to penalties. The underdogs, however, held their nerve in the shootout to seal a famous win and move into the third round.
The loss marked the first time in history that Manchester United have been dumped out of a competition by a fourth-tier team. It also extended Amorim’s winless run since the season began, with United yet to record a victory in three matches.
This dismal start has fueled speculation about the Portuguese coach’s future at Old Trafford. But according to BBC Sport, the club’s leadership remains firmly behind the 40-year-old. The board reportedly believes in giving him time and are reluctant to make rash decisions so early in the campaign.
For now, Amorim keeps the backing of United’s hierarchy, even as pressure continues to mount from fans frustrated by the team’s performances.
