Martinelli Says Myles Lewis-Skelly Will Be One of the Best Players in the World
Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli has expressed his full support for teammate Myles Lewis-Skelly, predicting that the young left-back has the potential to become one of the best players in the world.
Martinelli’s comments came after the team’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday, a match in which Lewis-Skelly impressed with his performance.
Despite the disappointing result, which saw Arsenal squander a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Villa’s Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins, Martinelli was quick to praise the 18-year-old.
The match had seen Arsenal take the lead with goals from Martinelli and Kai Havertz, but Villa’s second-half fightback left the game deadlocked.
Arsenal’s hopes of a late winner were dashed when VAR ruled out Havertz’s goal, deeming that he had used his arm to turn in Mikel Merino’s shot.
Martinelli, speaking after the game, didn’t hold back in his praise for Lewis-Skelly. “We love him,” Martinelli said when asked about his young teammate.
“He’s brilliant, a star boy. We trust him. I think he’s going to be one of the best players in the world in the future.”
