Netflix has officially announced a new K-drama titled “Variety”, set within the high-pressure world of the K-pop industry. The series stars veteran actress Son Ye-jin and rising star Jo Yu-ri.
Son Ye-jin will play the lead role of the CEO of a top entertainment agency. Her character is expected to be bold, sharp, and full of grit, navigating the highs and lows of managing idol groups in an industry where fame and failure go hand in hand. This marks Son’s return to the small screen after a brief break from acting, and fans are eager to see her in a new light.
Jo Yu-ri, formerly of IZ*ONE, will be playing a young trainee on the path to debut, giving viewers a glimpse into the life of an aspiring idol. Her role will reflect the challenges, sacrifices, and emotional journey young artists face behind the spotlight.
The drama will peel back the curtain on the often unseen side of K-pop, from intense training routines and strict contracts to fierce competition and personal struggles. It hopes to show both the glamour and the pressure that comes with chasing stardom. A release date hasn’t been announced yet, but filming is already underway.
