A day-old baby boy was discovered alive inside a gutter in the Karaworo area of Lokoja, Kogi State, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

The baby was found near the Kutepa Juma’at Mosque after a local resident, Talatu Ibrahim, heard his cries around 5am from her window.

Talatu quickly ran outside and discovered the infant abandoned in the gutter. She raised an alarm, prompting her sister and other neighbors to rush to the scene. The baby was then taken to an elderly woman in the community for care.

Chukwuemeka Muhammed Abubakar of Mohab Foundation, who shared a video from the scene, confirmed that the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development had been contacted, and the baby would be handed over to them for proper care and custody.

The Federal Government has announced an extension of the NYSC programme. It can be noted that the NYSC camp orientation is usually for three weeks before the youths go out to gain experience, employment, and serve the country for one year.

The final two weeks, we intend to have focused corps-stream-specific training aligned with the corps member’s designated stream based on his choice, academic background and skills profile.”
