Nigeria is making significant progress in fighting terrorism and banditry, according to Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. Speaking at the inaugural Annual International Lecture hosted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, he affirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating threats from Boko Haram, banditry, and kidnapping.

Idris reported that Nigerian forces have removed over 300 commanders from these groups in the past year, particularly in the Northeast and Northwest. He emphasized that understanding the root causes of insecurity is essential for effective management.

The Minister acknowledged the complexity of the situation, stating that no single nation can tackle the violence in the Sahel alone. He highlighted ongoing government efforts, such as intelligence gathering and grassroots initiatives, to address these issues. Idris commended NAN for its timely news delivery and its role in promoting national unity.
