The Nigeria Police Force has addressed recent speculations regarding the tenure of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, clarifying that President Bola Tinubu did not extend his tenure as some reports have suggested.

In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi clarified that the President’s action was not an extension but rather a confirmation of the IGP’s tenure in line with legal provisions.

According to Adejobi, President Tinubu approved the IGP’s appointment for a standard four-year term as stipulated by law.

The statement refuted misinformation circulating on social media and in news reports, emphasizing that the IGP’s appointment, which was confirmed by the Police Council, was not extended beyond its legal duration.

The official appointment letter, dated November 3, 2023, confirms that President Tinubu’s approval aligns with the Constitutional provisions outlined in Section 215(a) and Section 28(c) of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Adejobi further stressed that there is no need for the IGP to seek an extension of tenure, as his appointment already guarantees a four-year term from the date of his official confirmation.

He condemned the spread of false information as the work of detractors and mischief-makers aiming to undermine the office of the IGP and mislead the public for personal or financial motives.

The statement concluded by urging the public and media to rely on accurate and official sources of information, reinforcing the integrity and legal framework governing the tenure of the IGP.

The Catholic community across the globe has been plunged into mourning following the death of Pope Francis at the age of 88.

Known in private life as Jorge Mario Bergoglio, he made history in 2013 when he became the first Latin American pope. Now, as the world reflects on his life and legacy, his final wishes have been made public.

In a heartfelt testament written in June 2022 and published by the Vatican, Pope Francis shared his deep trust in God and his enduring devotion to the Virgin Mary. He asked that his final resting place be the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome—a site dear to him, where he would pray at the start and end of every Apostolic Journey.

He requested to be buried in a simple grave, without elaborate decoration, bearing only the name “Franciscus.” The tomb will be located between the Pauline Chapel and the Sforza Chapel within the Basilica, according to the detailed plan he left behind.

In addition, he stated that the cost of his burial will be covered by a donation from a benefactor, with arrangements already handled by Msgr. Rolandas Makrickas.
