Basketmouth Criticizes Nollywood for Failing to Showcase Nigeria’s Culture In TV Shows
Bright Okpocha, widely known as Basketmouth, has criticized Nigerian filmmakers for failing to highlight the country’s vibrant culture in their movies.
The renowned comedian and filmmaker voiced his disappointment during an interview with Hip TV, where he discussed the missed opportunities by some filmmakers to positively represent Nigeria’s heritage, particularly in epic movies.
Basketmouth lamented that many of the recent epic films lack authenticity and fail to reflect the depth of Nigerian culture.
Instead, he argued, they often come across as overly theatrical or staged.
Sharing his thoughts, he said, “We had a golden opportunity to showcase our culture, but many filmmakers missed the mark.
Most of the epic movies I’ve watched look more like stage plays than real representations of our heritage.
It’s disheartening to see such potential go to waste.”
He added, “I’ve watched several epic movies, and very few have left a lasting impression on me.
We had a great chance to make an impact, but it feels like we blew it.
However, I believe there’s still time to turn things around and get it right.”
