Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo recently opened up about how he met his wife, Busola, and the journey they took before becoming a couple.

Known for his heartfelt songs like Iyawo Mi, Timi shared the story in an interview with Pulse, recalling how their relationship started in church.

He recounted the first time he saw Busola and decided to approach her, asking if she would be his date for a ball.

Although she gave him her number, things didn’t go smoothly at first.

Whenever he called, she wouldn’t pick up, leaving him wondering if she was simply avoiding him.

But Timi wasn’t one to give up easily.

Determined to see her again, he started frequenting her area, hoping to bump into her.

His persistence paid off one day when he finally saw her.

When he confronted her about not answering his calls, she explained that her phone had been stolen.

This opened the door for a genuine friendship, and Timi found himself developing deeper feelings for her.

However, Busola didn’t initially see him in a romantic light and tried to friend-zone him.

But Timi, with his characteristic humor and determination, refused to accept that.

He described how he “suffered” to win her love, even offering to drive her to and from work regularly.

At the time, he was using a branded Kia Picanto, a prize he had won from the first season of Idols West Africa in 2007, which he proudly competed in and emerged victorious.

He admitted that Busola felt a bit embarrassed by the small, branded car, but he reassured her, telling her not to underestimate him.

“I told her, ‘Okay, don’t worry. I will shock you. Don’t look down on me.’ And I did,” Timi recalled.

Their love story took a big step, leading to their marriage in 2012.

Since then, they have built a beautiful family, raising three children together.

Busola Dakolo, now known as a photographer and a vocal advocate for women’s rights, has stood by Timi through life’s highs and lows.
