The Nigerian Navy has transferred 72 bags of Cannabis sativa, each weighing 40 kilograms, along with four detained individuals to the Marine Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

This action was detailed in a statement released by Lt. Hussaini Ibrahim, Base Information Officer at Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, on Tuesday.

The four suspects, including three Ghanaians and one Beninese, were handed over following an operation conducted by the Quick Response Team of NNS BEECROFT.

The operation, which took place on August 25, 2024, was executed based on reliable intelligence about illicit activities in the Lekki Beach area. The team’s efforts led to the seizure of 72 bags of cannabis sativa, amounting to over 2,880 kilograms of the drug.

Commodore Rafiu Oladejo, represented by Navy Captain Mutalib Raji, indicated that this operation was part of a broader initiative driven by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla. The strategic goal is to ensure maritime security and protect economic activities from criminal threats.

Commodore Oladejo emphasized that NNS BEECROFT remains vigilant in combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities within its operational area.

He cautioned that those involved in drug-related crimes should cease their activities, as the Navy remains committed to disrupting and dismantling illicit drug networks.

This successful operation underscores NNS BEECROFT’s dedication to addressing the harmful effects of drug abuse on youth and national security.
