Nigerians Paid ₦721 Billion in Bribes in 2023: NBS Report
A new survey by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reveals that Nigerians paid an astounding ₦721 billion in cash bribes to public officials in 2023.
The report, “Corruption in Nigeria: Patterns and Trends,” shows that over 95% of these bribes were in cash, and there has been a notable decline in public confidence in the government’s anti-corruption efforts.
The most frequent recipients of bribes were healthcare professionals, public utility officers, and police officers. Bribes were mainly exchanged in public offices, on the street, and in respondents’ homes.

Suzuki Motors’ founder, Suzuki, has passed away at the age of 94 after a battle with cancer. The businessman maintained a string business through his leadership for 4 decades straight. Suzuki started out by focusing the business in Japan before improving the fuel and quality of the products.
He then began deals with international buyers and his business began to grow from there. He also once formed an allegiance with Toyota motors and Volkswagen in 2019.

Christmas Tragedy: 11 Killed in Attack by Armed Herders in Benue State
A Christmas celebration in Mkomon district of Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, turned tragic as armed herders and militia reportedly invaded the community, killing 11 people and burning houses.
The President-General of Tiv socio-cultural group, Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, Iorbee Ihagh, confirmed the attack, stating, “Our people were celebrating Christmas when the herders invaded, killing 11 and leaving others missing. Some council wards, like Moon, had already been sacked by these herders.”
Former government aide Solomon Amande added that displaced residents who had recently returned home were attacked while preparing Christmas meals. He described the assault as a coordinated attack from five locations, which left Anwase and Tse Jam River Crossing communities in ruins.
Governor Hyacinth Alia and President Bola Tinubu have been urged to enhance security in the region to prevent further attacks.

Peter Obi Extends Heartfelt Condolences to Jigawa Governor Over Tragic Losses
Peter Obi, on behalf of his family and the Obidient movement, has extended heartfelt condolences to the Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, following the tragic deaths of his mother, Hajiya Maryam Namadi, and his son, Abdulwahab.
In a post shared on his X handle, Obi expressed deep sorrow, acknowledging the overwhelming pain the Governor and his family are facing.
He mentioned learning of the death of the Governor’s mother earlier and was preparing to offer condolences when he received the devastating news of his son’s death in a motor accident.
Obi emphasized that the death of a loved one is always difficult, but the Governor’s loss is especially poignant.
He joined in prayers for Governor Namadi and his family, asking that the Almighty grant them strength and fortitude to bear the sorrow and accept the losses as part of God’s will.
He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased, asking that Almighty Allah grant them Aljanna Firdausi, a place in paradise.
Obi also prayed for continued protection and blessings for the Namadi family.
