Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Climbs to 32.7% in September, Driven by Rising Fuel Prices and Floods

Nigeria’s inflation rate increased to 32.7% in September, following three months of decline, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The rise, driven by surging gasoline prices and severe floods in key agricultural areas, marks a 0.55% increase from August’s 32.2%. Year-on-year, inflation was 5.98% higher than September 2023’s 26.72%.

Food inflation also saw a significant spike, reaching 37.77%, as the cost of essential items like rice, maize, and vegetable oil continued to climb.

Nyesom Wike Says He Knows Civil Servants Don’t Like Him

Nigerian politician and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has said that he is aware many civil servants do not like him.

He shared that he understands why he is unpopular among some civil servants, explaining that funds previously spent on unnecessary conferences are now being redirected to road construction projects.

He said “Some people say conferences for corruption and I say what is that? You are going for conferences to do what? These are ways government funds are being diverted. I say put this money in this road here and the people will get the impact.”
