The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has been praised for his leadership as the Port Harcourt Refinery commences petroleum product production.

In a statement, Kyari expressed optimism about the NNPC’s continued success, stating:

“NNPC will go from strength to strength, and once its other refineries are working as well, Nigerians will have cause to smile again. Let the new kid on the block flourish, but let the NNPC refineries flourish too. That should be our goal and not a squalid attempt to discredit NNPC and its leadership.”

He highlighted the importance of supporting Nigeria’s progress and President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, adding:

“Every optimistic and true lover of Nigeria’s progress must be proud of the GMD Mele Kyari. His tenacity, bravery, ingenuity, and forthrightness have been rewarded with this great feat. Surely this is hope renewed for Nigerians.”

Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, has admitted he might consider joining the coalition working to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, though he’s not in a hurry to make that decision. Speaking on Arise TV on Tuesday night, Ndume confirmed that he has attended several of the coalition’s meetings but made it clear he’s being cautious.

“I know about the opposition coalition. I’ve attended many of their meetings,” he said. When asked if the group had approached him to join them, Ndume responded, “Yes, they’ve spoken to me, but I told them no for now. I don’t want to jump from frying pan to fire. I need to be sure of what I’m doing. I’m a loyal person, and I have my reasons for that loyalty.”

His comments follow reports that the opposition coalition plans to rally around the newly proposed All Democratic Alliance (ADA), which has applied for registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The coalition is believed to be led by political heavyweights like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Anambra governor Peter Obi, ex-Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi, among others.

As President Bola Tinubu arrives in Nasarawa State today, Wednesday, to commission major projects carried out by Governor Abdullahi Sule in Lafia, the Tiv Youth Organisation (TYO) is calling for urgent action to stop the ongoing violence and killings affecting Tiv communities in the state.

During a press briefing on Tuesday in Lafia, the group’s president, Comrade Isaiah Audu, expressed deep concern over the rising attacks that have left several Tiv settlements in ruins across four local government areas. Audu described the attacks as unprovoked and deadly, adding that they have led to the loss of innocent lives, destroyed farmlands, and forced thousands of Tiv families to abandon their homes.

Additionally, he mentioned that the latest incidents took place on June 13 and June 15, 2025, affecting communities like Dooga Ayande in Doma LGA, Antsa in Keana LGA, Tse Yange in Obi LGA, and Tse Akura in Giza Area Administrative Council. Among those reportedly killed were Mr. Terfa Tswabee, Mr. Sham Kyodo, Zaki Kwaghtagher Ordue, and Teryem Aondo Apav. Many others were injured, while families continue to flee their homes in search of safety.

Audu urged President Tinubu to use his visit as an opportunity to work with security agencies and state authorities to put an end to the attacks and ensure the safety of Tiv people. “We are Nigerians too, and we deserve to live in peace on our ancestral lands without fear,” Audu stressed. “Mr. President, we are not just asking you to commission projects today; we are asking you to commission peace and justice for the Tiv people of Nasarawa.”
