NSCDC Arrests Couple for Massive Job Scam in Akwa Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended Blessing Ezekiel Ubengama and her husband, Joseph Richard Ufot, for a large-scale job scam involving approximately 7,000 victims and tens of millions of naira.
The arrest occurred on July 22, 2024, following public complaints about fraudulent activities promising employment in the State Civil Service.
According to SC Friday Ekerete, the NSCDC spokesperson, the couple defrauded numerous individuals by offering fake employment letters in exchange for money.
They also operated a sham NGO, ‘Child Support Foundation,’ falsely claiming UNICEF sponsorship and extorting money from parents under the pretense of providing grants for children.
The State Commandant, Engr. Eluwade Eluyemi, condemned the act and urged citizens to be cautious of such scams, emphasizing that legitimate recruitment processes are free. The suspects will be made to refund all extorted money before facing charges in court.
