Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed confidence in his leadership, stating that he fulfilled all his responsibilities during his time as President.

Speaking at a recent lecture in Lagos, Obasanjo, who served from 1999 to 2007, highlighted key achievements, including securing debt relief for Nigeria.

“When I was there, I did everything I should do for Nigeria and I can beat my chest and say that,” Obasanjo remarked.

He noted that upon assuming office, Nigeria had only N3.7 billion in reserves but was spending N3.5 billion servicing debt. His administration’s efforts led to significant debt relief and increased reserves.

Obasanjo concluded by stating that while Nigeria is complex, it is not difficult to manage if one leads with honesty and integrity.

“No, I don’t think many people will blame the Tinubu administration for what is happening now because President Donald Trump, when he first made the threats, it was clearly not in coordination with the Tinubu administration or the government of Nigeria,” Jega said.
