Obi: Edo Voters Will Block Election Rigging Attempts
As the Edo State gubernatorial election approaches this Saturday, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has assured voters that they hold the power to prevent any attempts to manipulate the election results.
Speaking in Benin on Wednesday during a large rally in support of Olumide Akpata, the LP candidate for governor, Obi made it clear that the electorate will play a key role in safeguarding the election’s integrity.
He emphasized the importance of the people’s participation in ensuring a free and fair election, urging them to be vigilant and proactive in resisting any efforts by individuals or groups aiming to rig the process.
Obi’s remarks were met with enthusiasm by the gathered supporters, who are hopeful that their votes will count and that the election will reflect the will of the people.
The rally, held as the final event in Akpata’s campaign, attracted a large turnout, demonstrating the growing support for the Labour Party in Edo State.
Obi, in his address, reinforced his belief in the power of the people to shape their future through the ballot box, stressing that they should not allow any forces to undermine their democratic rights.
As the election draws near, the Labour Party is positioning itself as a strong contender, with Akpata’s candidacy receiving widespread attention.
Obi’s presence at the rally underscored the party’s commitment to a transparent electoral process and the need for citizens to actively defend their right to choose their leaders without interference.

He shared his thoughts, saying the governor likely consulted with his close allies before making key decisions.
“My assumption is that the governor would have gone with his own close allies, discussed with them, and said that this is the best way, that he has to move forward for the next six months or thereabouts of his administration. I would assume that’s what he did.”
“But I am not in his chamber, so I wouldn’t know. But that’s what I would assume he would do.”
He added “But having taken the responsibility to come and finish his term, then he has to finish it in the way that allows him to govern. He can’t go back into fighting.”
Politician and former President Olusegun Obasanjo speaks on Nigeria and shares that the possibility of Nigeria surviving another civil war is quite low.
He revealed that the issues that led to the Biafra War have not been resolved and that if another war breaks out, it will be much harder to resolve.
Reflecting on the civil war, he shared “The conditions that led to the Nigerian civil war years ago still remain unresolved.”
“I was involved in the civil war, but whenever people ask me about the Asaba massacre, I always tell them I cannot give details because Murtala Muhammed was responsible for operations in that area.”
Nigerian businessman Isaac Fayose pleads with the government and President Tinubu that the minimum wage needs to be increased.
He shared that the current minimum wage of ₦70,000 is not enough considering the current state of the country and urged the government to increase it to ₦200,000.
“President Tinubu, have mercy on our people and increase the minimum wage to ₦200,000 now. I don’t think anyone can survive on the current ₦70,000 minimum wage. ₦70,000 is nothing. If we don’t solve the minimum wage problem, we can’t solve crime.”
