Oprah Winfrey Denies $1 Million Payment for Hosting Kamala Harris Event Amid Record Campaign Spending
Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has denied rumors that she was paid $1 million to host a star-studded town hall for Vice President Kamala Harris in September.
When approached by TMZ in Santa Barbara, Oprah responded simply, “Not true. I was paid nothing. Ever,” dismissing the report of a payout following her event appearance.
A Washington Examiner report suggested that Harpo Productions, Oprah’s company, received $1 million from the Harris campaign in mid-October.
This surfaced amid Financial Times data revealing that Harris’s campaign spending reached an unprecedented $1.2 billion, compared to Donald Trump’s $750 million.
Key campaign expenditures included six figures for a set build-out for Harris’s interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast and millions on event productions with high-profile figures like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.
Federal filings show that the Harris campaign, Democratic National Committee, and affiliated groups collectively raised over $2.3 billion and spent $3.5 billion, setting a new record in election spending.
In contrast, Trump’s campaign and Republican affiliates raised $1.8 billion.
Among Harris’s campaign spending highlights, $3.9 million went to Village Marketing Agency to boost her online presence through influencers, and over $15 million to event production services, signaling a strong emphasis on building her public appeal through media engagements and celebrity appearances.
