Osimhen to miss Nigeria’s world cup qualifier against South Africa due to injury
Victor Osimhen will miss Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa after picking up an injury in the win over Rwanda.
The striker, who plays for Galatasaray, went off in the first half of the Super Eagles’ 1-0 victory at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday and was replaced by Cyriel Dessers.
Head coach Eric Chelle revealed after the match that Osimhen would be monitored, but an update from team media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed the forward woke up on Sunday with pain in his chin and has now been ruled out of the trip.
The 26-year-old will return to Turkey for further checks and treatment. Nigeria is set to face the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Tuesday at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

Former footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović speaks on the FIFA World Cup and states which African team countries should watch out for.
During a recent interview, the former player shared that Ivory Coast should be one of the teams to look out for.
“They can be dangerous. It is a very good team. They lost against Germany, but that game could have been a draw or even a win.
“So, it’s not like they came out of the group with one loss because of a bad game against Germany. They played a good game against Germany and could easily have gotten a point against them.”
