Paul Okoye Confirms P-Square Split, Plans Solo Career
P-Square, the iconic Nigerian music duo, has played a significant role in the commercialization and global spread of Nigerian pop music. In a recent interview with City FM, Paul Okoye, one half of the duo, disclosed that he and his twin brother Peter have parted ways. When asked about the current status of P-Square, Paul confirmed the split, citing creative differences and Peter’s decision to leave the group.
Paul revealed that Peter communicated his intention to quit both through a message and in person. Peter also requested that the split be kept private, a request Paul disagreed with, fearing backlash if he resumed his solo career as Rudeboy without explanation. Paul also mentioned that Peter had filed a petition with the EFCC against him and their older brother Jude, further straining their relationship. Despite being cleared of any financial wrongdoing, Paul expressed his desire to move forward with his solo career, boasting a backlog of over 200 songs and asserting that he wrote 99% of P-Square’s tracks.
The duo, who reunited in 2021 and released new music, including ‘Jaiye’ and ‘Find Somebody,’ now face another separation, marking a low point in their relationship. Paul emphasized his need to explain the situation to their fans, aiming to avoid being labeled the villain as he transitions back to his solo career.
