Obi shared his optimism for Trump’s win, expressing that it could be a beacon of democracy on a global scale, especially in challenging times.
He conveyed his message through his official handle on X (formerly Twitter), offering praise for Trump’s accomplishment, which he feels could bring fresh momentum to the ideals of democracy and global peace.
Obi’s message wasn’t limited to Trump alone.
He also applauded Vice President Kamala Harris for her resilience and determination throughout the election journey.
Acknowledging Harris’s dedication, he commended her courage and strength, qualities that resonated with many across the U.S. and beyond, adding that although she didn’t emerge victorious, her impact was undeniable.
Reflecting on the conduct of the recent U.S. elections, Obi held it up as a model for democratic processes worldwide.
He noted the transparent and peaceful nature of the election, especially the swift release of results and the smooth transmission of data.
In his post, Obi made a passionate call for Nigeria to take inspiration from the United States and abandon practices that have long plagued its own elections.
He highlighted issues such as electoral malpractice, vote-buying, election violence, and network disruptions, all of which have cast shadows over Nigeria’s democratic process in the past.
Obi stressed that genuine democracy relies on the people’s will, as expressed freely and transparently through the ballots.
He urged Nigerians to rally together in pursuit of a more credible electoral system, one that truly reflects the desires and choices of the people.
Acknowledging the need for reforms, he reminded Nigerians that the journey toward a transparent and robust democracy is ongoing, emphasizing his belief in the possibility of a “New Nigeria.”

2027 Elections Will Be Performance-Based, Not Defections — Lagos APC
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that the outcome of the 2027 general elections will be based on the performance of candidates, not defections.
The party stressed that defections alone do not win elections, noting that credibility, leadership, and results matter more. This was said in response to comments credited to former governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The APC also dismissed claims that the opposition’s performance in Lagos weakened the party, pointing out that voters later reaffirmed their support by re-electing the APC in the governorship election and subsequent polls.
