Peter Obi Mourns with Makarfi Kyari and Tallen Families Over Loss of Children

Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed deep condolences to the families of Ahmed Makarfi, Mele Kolo Kyari, and Dame Pauline Tallen over the tragic loss of their children.

In a heartfelt message, Obi extended his sympathies to Ahmed Makarfi, former governor of Kaduna State, on the passing of his son Faisal Makarfi, and to Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, on the death of his daughter, Fatima Kyari.

He also offered condolences to former Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, who recently lost her only son, Richard Adamu Tallen.

In his statement, Obi acknowledged the immense grief of losing young family members with bright futures ahead of them, emphasizing the void such losses create.

He urged the grieving families to accept these painful events as the will of God, who holds the power of life and death.

Obi prayed for God’s mercy and forgiveness for the departed souls and asked for strength and blessings for the Makarfi, Kyari, and Tallen families during this difficult time.

He specifically wished them Aljanna Firdausi, the highest paradise in Islam, and urged the families to find solace in their faith.

Peter Obi, known for his compassionate leadership and strong faith, has been an active figure in Nigerian politics, advocating for good governance, transparency, and unity.

FG Extends NYSC Orientation Camp From 3 to 6 Weeks

The Federal Government has announced an extension of the NYSC programme. It can be noted that the NYSC camp orientation is usually for three weeks before the youths go out to gain experience, employment, and serve the country for one year.

However, the FG announced that the passing-out parade from camp will be cancelled, and corps members will now spend six weeks in camp instead of three weeks.

“The first two weeks speak to laying a foundation on civic responsibility. The next two weeks will look at career mapping, basic accounting literacy skills, business planning and access to finance. The final two weeks, we intend to have focused corps-stream-specific training aligned with the corps member’s designated stream based on his choice, academic background and skills profile.”

Federal Government Clarifies Position on Proposed Tax Recommendations

The federal government reacted to claims stating that the new tax rules will be imposed on telecommunications and petroleum products for Nigerians.

The FG released a statement to explain the process and stated that there is no intention to place taxes on telecom and petroleum products and services.

“Those recommendations do not amount to government policy and are not binding on Nigeria. Decisions on tax matters are taken through established constitutional and legislative processes and are guided by national priorities and prevailing economic realities.”
