Philip Shaibu, the recently reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, has announced his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shaibu revealed that his decision to rejoin the APC was driven by efforts to undermine him related to his ambition for the governorship position.

Addressing the Afemai World Congress in Detroit, Michigan, over the weekend, Shaibu reflected on the challenges he faced, including a significant rift with Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He credited divine intervention for his survival amid attempts to derail his political aspirations.

Shaibu expressed his commitment to supporting the APC’s gubernatorial candidate, Monday Okpebholo, asserting that Okpebholo would provide better leadership compared to Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is backed by Obaseki.

He explained, “With the upcoming elections, it’s important to be engaged. I have transitioned from the PDP back to the APC.

My shift to the PDP was influenced by my conflict with the governor, and my return to the APC is also a reaction to that situation.”

Shaibu elaborated on his experiences, stating, “I aspired to become governor, but there were threats to destroy me if I pursued that goal.

Despite numerous obstacles and attempts to intimidate me, including my impeachment, I have managed to persevere.

My reinstatement as Deputy Governor is a testament to overcoming these challenges, and now, we must focus on finding solutions to improve our country.”
