Police Spokesperson Relieved Cab Driver’s Apology to Lawmaker Wasn’t Made at Police Station
Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has expressed relief that Stephen Abuwatsaye, the cab driver allegedly assaulted by House of Representatives member Alex Ikwechegh, did not issue an apology at a police station or before the case went to court.
The incident in Abuja, which occurred two weeks ago, drew public attention when Stephen recently released a video offering an unreserved apology to the lawmaker for “provoking” him.
Stephen’s apology video, in which he cited personal forgiveness and a desire for God’s mercy, sparked mixed reactions online, with some speculating that he may have been pressured.
In response on X (formerly Twitter), Hundeyin acknowledged the speculation but noted he was grateful the video wasn’t made under police involvement, as it would likely have led to criticism against the police force.
