Police Unveil Post-Election Security Plan to Maintain Peace in Edo
As the 2024 Edo governorship election draws to a close, the Nigeria Police Force has unveiled a post-election security plan aimed at maintaining peace across the state.
This was announced by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Frank Mba, who is overseeing the security operations for the election.
The announcement came through a statement issued on Sunday night by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, as tensions rose over the anticipated outcome of the election.
The new security measures, detailed in the statement, are designed to reassure the public and maintain order.
Among the strategies is a Show of Force Exercise, aimed at boosting citizens’ confidence and demonstrating the readiness of the police to respond to any potential threats to public safety.
Additionally, the police will increase their presence around key locations such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) facilities, election stakeholders, and other critical infrastructure in the state.
The police urged the people of Edo State to remain calm, and law-abiding, and go about their daily activities without fear.
They emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and warned that any individual or group attempting to disrupt the state’s stability would face swift action from security forces.
The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring continuous peace and emphasized their preparedness to deal with any situation that might arise, assuring citizens that the security of the state remains their top priority.

979 Forests to Be Taken Down as Northern States Intensify Security Efforts
It has been reported that Niger State and some northern states have come together and agreed to take down 979 forests in order to strengthen national security.
This was revealed by the Niger State Governor, represented by his deputy, Yakubu Garba, at the passing-out parade in Mutum Daya.
He also shared that the government will support in any way they can in order to achieve this and strengthen security in Nigeria.
“The state will make necessary arrangements to support and empower the Forest Guard families for their service to the nation. We will provide them with adequate healthcare insurance scheme.”

Analyst Says Tinubu Not Responsible for Recent U.S.-Linked Airstrike Claims
Nigerian news analyst, Mahmud Jega, has shared his opinion on the recent airstrike carried out by the United States in Nigeria, stating that Nigerians should not blame President Bola Tinubu for the incident.
Jega made this statement during a recent interview, where he said he does not believe many people will hold the Tinubu administration responsible, as Donald Trump had issued threats against Nigeria long before Tinubu’s administration.
“No, I don’t think many people will blame the Tinubu administration for what is happening now because President Donald Trump, when he first made the threats, it was clearly not in coordination with the Tinubu administration or the government of Nigeria,” Jega said.

United States Launches Airstrike on ISIS Targets in Northwest Nigeria
It has been reported that the United States carried out an airstrike targeting ISIS in the northwest region of Nigeria. The order was reportedly given by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist elements in northwest Nigeria,” Trump said.
