Eedris Says His New Song is Not an Attack But a Message to Seyi Tinubu

Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem has cleared the air on his new song Tell Your Papa, saying it wasn’t a personal attack on Seyi Tinubu.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds, the veteran artist said the track was simply a response to Seyi’s public claim that his father, President Bola Tinubu, is Nigeria’s best-ever leader. That statement was made in March 2025 during a visit to Yola, Adamawa State.

Eedris explained that the song was meant to urge the president’s son to call on his father to fix the country’s issues, not to spark any personal drama.

“Nigerian youths are asking for the basics—electricity, security, jobs, and a working economy. Not handouts,” he said.

Meanwhile, he made it clear that if Seyi hadn’t made the remark, there wouldn’t have been a song at all. “I was inspired by his video. If he kept quiet, I would have too,” he added.

Shortly after the song dropped, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) banned it from airwaves, calling it inappropriate—a move that has sparked backlash from many Nigerians.

Even Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka weighed in, slamming the ban as censorship and a threat to free speech.

Also, Eedris noted that over two decades after releasing Nigeria Jaga Jaga, the message sadly still rings true, as the country continues to battle the same problems it did years ago.
