Rema Says He Still Believes in Nigeria Even Though Many Have Lost Hope
Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, has opened up about the struggles facing Nigeria and how they’ve made many citizens lose hope in the country.
Despite the challenges, Rema said he remains optimistic and is committed to playing his part in helping the nation grow.
In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, Rema admitted that many Nigerians feel frustrated and disillusioned, but he’s determined to stay hopeful. “A lot of people are giving up on Nigeria. A lot of people are angry at Nigeria. But I keep hope.
There aren’t many people who would carry Afrobeats and culture like this. It makes me look like I talk too much or care too much, or like I’m trying to be some kind of messiah. I don’t want to do too much — just what I need to do,” he said.
Rema also reflected on his experience at the 2025 Grammys, where he was nominated for Best Global Music Album but didn’t win. He said he was genuinely happy for the winners and had hoped to take the stage himself.
“I had my fingers crossed that I’d walk up that stage too, and when it didn’t happen… it happens. It’s not the first award I’ve been nominated for and didn’t get,” he shared.
