Rhodes-Vivour Decries Nigeria’s Export Deficit as Ships Depart Empty
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s Lagos State governorship candidate in the last election, expressed frustration over Nigeria’s trade imbalance, revealing that while ships arrive loaded with foreign goods, they often depart empty.
Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, Rhodes-Vivour highlighted the impact on Nigeria’s economy, saying, “Watching a ship leave a country populated by 200 million people, EMPTY, is extremely painful.”
He pointed out that this situation increases shipping costs, contributes to rising unemployment, and weakens the Nigerian currency.
“With our population, ships should not be leaving empty,” he stressed, emphasizing the need for local and national productivity boosts. Calling for a shift from “consumption to production,” Rhodes-Vivour described this change as crucial for Nigeria’s economic recovery.
